Professor Judith Fowler Makes Book Magic and Teaches Others to Create Their Own
Build Your Own Book! A “Book Arts” Workshop for Middle-School Children and their Parents:
On Saturday, March 15th, Professor Judith Fowler of the Missouri State University Department of Art and Design, presented “Build Your Own Book,” a hands-on workshop for middle-school aged children and their parents. Joined by Missouri State Library Science Professor David Richards, who brought samples of writing from ancient civilizations (cuneiform, papyrus, vellum, etc.), and Joel Chaston, Missouri State Distinguished Professor and specialist in children’s writing, Fowler and her team provided guidance to enthralled children as they composed, illustrated, decorated and bound books of their own making. “Build Your Own Book” activities were free and open to the public.
Support for “Build Your Own Book” comes from The Missouri Center for the Book, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Missouri State University Libraries, and Art on Wheels.
