The University of Central Missouri will host the 2014 national contest, Letters About Literature on behalf of the MCB.  UCM houses several Special Collections of Children's Literature.  Under the direction of MCB board member and Special Collections Librarian, Naomi Wiliamson, the awards ceremony for next year's winners promises to be a most memorable day! ( Details of date and time to be announced).

President Obama spoke to a standing room only crowd at UCM on July 25, 2013.  He delivered high compliments to the university for setting and maintaining exceptional standards in education.

The 2014 Letters About Literature competition is in progress.  Letters About Literature is an opportunity for students grades 4-12 to enhance their writing skills and proclaim their admiration for the author of a favorite book.  Each year, hundreds of students from Missouri enter the national contest, and from those participants semi-finalists are chosen and their letters are further judged at the state level. Prizes are awarded to 1st Place, 2nd Place and Honorable Mention writers in Missouri in three levels and  these winners are honored at an awards ceremony each year.  For more information, to find guidelines, and a 2014 Entry Coupon, visit the Letters About Literature website in the Library of Congress. Good luck and good writing!
